Having grown up in a military family and recently acquiring a masters degree in computing, Alice is one of our newer software engineers at our Gloucester branch. She tells us what it’s like to have just started a career in the cyber sector.

Responsibilities

Job Title: Lead Business Analyst

Location: Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire; Feltham, Greater London; or Harlow

Summary of Role

The Business Analyst (BA) role requires a versatile individual who can make effective and highly valued contributions to activities across the project lifecycle in Intelligence and Security, Geospatial Intelligence and deployed IT environments. The candidate is expected to be capable of operating in a senior role working closely with customer and delivery teams; alone and unsupervised if necessary.

Working within the Service Design team and reporting to the Head of Service Design, the successful applicant will be capable of aligning the business strategy and plans with technology and solutions that support the strategy. The BA needs to be able to talk to technical experts, stakeholders, and End Users alike, applying a holistic approach to create solutions that will help the Organisation achieve its goals. The candidate must be a team player who is prepared to lead from the front and work with a multi-national engineering team and the customer community.

Travel between Customer sites will be required.

Main Duties
  • Creating a detailed business analysis, outlining problems, opportunities and solutions for the business;
  • Identify problems and opportunities within the business and ultimately provide solutions that help achieve the business' goals;
  • Analysing the organisation's efficiency by studying its needs, its business model, its workflows, and its technological systems. Making recommendations to the Head of Service Design in technical development projects that will improve business efficiency;
  • Support the Service Operations team with incident resolution where the incidents relate to user ways of working;
  • Support the ITEA team with DR assessment and resolution;
  • Assess design solutions to ensure that they balance business requirements with information, user and security requirements that are capable of being effectively managed in service;
  • Engage with relevant stakeholders to provide understanding of the planned solution and identify possible impacts on Service;
  • Describe the current architecture by investigating its components and how they are organised within a system;
  • To help the Business evaluate existing systems and provide advice on how to meet organisational requirements and future needs;
  • Identification of Risks, Issues, Assumptions and Dependencies related to Projects and their impact upon ongoing Service Model and/or processes;
  • Good communication skills with diverse audiences - strong critical thinking and analytical skills.


Candidate Requirements

Essential
  • Design & Innovation;
  • Service Design/Architecture experience;
  • Service Implementation background;
  • You will be capable of bringing a “big picture” perspective to the adoption of new ideas;
  • You will be capable of proposing technical solutions to help decision makers apply relevant changes;
  • You will have strategic business acumen and understanding of business strategy and the ability to identify Solutions to deliver that strategy;
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to lay audiences, with experience of working with board level stakeholders;
  • Self-starter with the ability to appropriately prioritise and plan complex work in a rapidly changing environment;
  • Results oriented with ability to produce potential solutions that deliver business benefit;
  • Strong critical thinker with problem solving aptitude;
  • Team player with experience leading and collaborating cross-team to ensure successful delivery of solutions;
  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills - demonstrating outside-the-box problem solving skills;
  • Researching possible software solutions to increase work efficiency;
  • Interpreting data about company policies and workflows;
  • Supporting project teams during the analysis and planning stages of software development;
  • Working on other project phases like implementation and testing;
  • Facilitating a successful transition;
  • Evaluating risks and predicting potential problems;
  • Establishing deliverables;
  • Writing reports, instructions, and specifications and creating flowcharts;
  • Acting as a liaison between the business and its In Service Support element;
  • Acting as a liaison between the business and its End Users;
  • Facilitating meetings and educational workshops for team members;
  • Acquiring knowledge of products or services provided by the business;
  • Incorporating user suggestions into projects;
  • Current SC clearance. Willing and able to obtain the highest level of UK Security Clearances and not dual nationality.

Desirable
  • Knowledge of MoD Implementation requirements (JSP604/480);
  • Experience of implementing security aspects and solutions - JSP440;
  • Ability to manage and control the expectations of a diverse set of stakeholders;
  • Experience of implementing projects for an MoD or Government customer at various Classifications;
  • Experience working within HM Forces or MOD Government Departments;
  • Holder of current DV security clearance;
  • Knowledge of SAFE methodology;
  • Business Analyst certified;
  • Expert Knowledge of ITIL v3;
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture methodologies such as TOGAF and MODAF or the equivalent;
  • Knowledge of virtualised systems;
  • Knowledge of information exploitation solutions;
  • Understanding of the DCPD workflow.
